The name Rosito appears for the first time in a Lombard diploma of 752, with which King Liutprando granted freedom to the slave Cunda and his son Liupergo; it seems to derive from the abundant presence of wild roses that embellish the surroundings of the country. Where the medieval village stands there was already a Roman settlement, as evidenced by a funeral stone in Latin, some coins and other finds.
The work of the scapellini is the most important artistic heritage of the country. Portals, columns, bas-reliefs were made with the stone of the local quarry, of which there are traces among other things in many villages in the surrounding area. Many examples produced are real masterpieces, such as the balustrade of access to the Mother Church, dedicated to the Assumption, or the funerary tombstones of Tullio and Amalia. The old town is characterized by alleys and alleys (stréttole) along which you can walk in peace and enjoy panoramic views of the lush nature of the surroundings, or come across small treasures such as the old straw oven. From Piazza Vecchia, the heart of the old town, the alleys branch off, to a wider one overlooked by the stairs of the housing, alternating with a narrower one that served, in the Middle Ages, as a collector of rainwater. At the end of each alley a door protected the village.
Roseto is surrounded by lush nature, which manifests itself in large green areas, such as the Bosco Vetruscelli, kingdom of wolves, to which the Observatory of Ecology Apennines is dedicated. Here spring waters gush out and the fat earth is rich in scorzone, the summer black truffle. But the surroundings of Roseto also have rare wetlands, called marcite and on the nearby Monte Vento rises the River Fortore, near which rise the water mills: the Old Mill upstream and the Mill Valley. The first houses the Museum of Ancient Art, and behind it there are a series of outdoor swimming pools surrounded by greenery. The harmony of the town and its surroundings have earned Roseto the mention among the most beautiful villages in Italy.
