Information
The country houses of the good bourgeoisie were called casine in the 19th century. So, despite the reductive name, they were large and prestigious dwellings. "The Mess" was one of them. It was built by canon Don Mattia D'Ambrosio, belonging to one of the richest and most influential families of the time; it was 1865 and wanted the event to be remembered to posterity, with a plaque, placed on the large portal and surmounted by the family coat of arms.
The canon knew how to choose a prestigious place: a hill 551 meters high, on the slopes of the wooded mountain S. Quirico (mt. 728), just over a kilometer from the village of Deliceto. Although very close to the road, it is still a private and quiet place, and offers a superb view: on the right the medieval village, clinging to the cliff on which stands the imposing Norman Swabian castle; in front, the extensive forest of Valle in Vincolis, of oaks and oaks; further away, the village of Sant'Agata, also on a hill around a castle. On the left, the gaze slips towards the plain of the Tavoliere delle Puglie and, on clear days, it goes up to the Gargano and the sea. After all, this was a place appreciated since millennia, as revealed by a Roman tombstone, with funerary inscription, found near the building and still visible today.
And equally prestigious is the building, which are the corollary of a well; an ancient drinking trough with perennial water source, working and recently restored; the ruins of an ancient tannery, all within the radius of short walks in the green.
The descendants of that ancient family, who now manage the structure, have provided for a complete restoration of the building, which still retains the appearance of the nineteenth century and which is now a comfortable b & b.
An oasis of greenery and quiet in the southern Dauni Mountains; an estate suitable for rest and relaxation.
