Information
The area in question has been inhabited since prehistoric times and has returned artifacts from various eras: third century coins in bronze and silver, ceramics and various furnishings, darts, grave goods and an armor disc (a part of armor worn by warriors) dating back to the Samnite period. Also here were found coats of arms of the Norman era. The excavations have also identified a Samnite necropolis (the only one to date south of the Fortore) and a Benedictine monastery of the seventh century. with mosaic floors and frescoed crypt.
