Information
In the area between Piazza Duomo and Via Torino, in correspondence with what was once the forensic area of ancient Roman Bovino (Vibinum), about 3 meters below the current road plan, there is the most important underground archaeological complex of Bovino, known by the name of "Cantine Cerrato'', privately owned and open on the occasion of events and by reservation of groups. The site is composed of two environments dug into the sandstone and arranged in a square, with waterproofed walls in cocciopesto (opus signinum). The largest of the two rooms is almost 20 meters long and has 6 arched pillars up to 5 meters high. These are Roman cisterns or reservoirs that served the baths and that were probably connected to the Roman aqueduct, whose remains can be observed along the road that leads from Bovino to Panni.
