Information
The building, which looks like a real masterpiece of the Baroque, was built, together with the adjoining monastery in 1754 by the will of the Carmelite Fathers, with extensive use of materials and thanks to the many donations of noble families of Lucera, such as De Grazia, del Vecchio, Lombardi and Scassa. The facade of the Church has a beautiful chromatic variation, given to the use of white stone for the definition of pilasters, cornices, windows, volutes, etc... and ochre brick for the infilling. It is also characterized by an original game of decorative elements, such as windows, ghirigori, oval, etc.. which gives it an exquisitely baroque taste.
The church has a Latin cross plan with three naves; along the side open six chapels illuminated by curved windows and adorned with as many baroque altars. Inside the sacred place you can admire various works of art, including an altarpiece by Santa Teresa d'Avila by Ermenegildo Costantino (1659), a marble altar by Michele Salemme (1759), a famous canvas by Francesco De Mura, the Addolorata, set in the center of the altar of the chapel of the same name, as well as the canvas of Our Lady of Miracles and in the center of the apse the canvas of the Virgin of Mount Carmel with the child.
