The works of the new factory began in 1569, at the behest of Baron Carlo Gambacorta and the building was altered several times over the centuries, so as to upset the original appearance.
The facade, now in brickwork, originally reflected the stylistic canons of Abruzzo Romanesque, of which the rose window and volutes remain. Through four flights of stairs, in local stone, with wrought iron railings, you enter the churchyard on which the three entrance doors open. The main one is decorated and underlined by a protiro, with fluted pilasters, Corinthian capitals and tympanum.
The plan of the building is a Latin cross with a single nave; the 13 baroque altars that characterized it were abruptly demolished in 1970. The interior houses the eighteenth-century wooden statues of Saint Joseph with Child, the Immaculate Conception, both by Giacomo Colombo, Saint John the Baptist, as well as the canvases depicting Saint George of Sicilians and the Assumption of the Virgin of 1656 by Benedetto Brunetti.
Of particular value is the baptismal font in local bronze stone of the sixteenth century. The portal of the Sacristy, coming from the original sixteenth-century church of Santa Maria delle Grazie, collapsed in 1838, is also beautiful. The upright pillars, surmounted by capitals, are decorated with rosettes in relief star, one of the capitals shows a lion rampant, a reminder of the noble family of Gambacorta. Also the pediment is finely decorated with reliefs of different types.
