Information
In the village they all call it the "Church of the Dead", because here the Brotherhood of the Good Death was located, as can be easily guessed from the decorations on the facade.
The Church was actually originally dedicated to Saint Catherine, but after its rebuilding in the seventeenth century, due to a collapse, the name was changed. The building, enlarged thanks to the donation of a land adjacent to the original church by Vespasiano Alfani, is presented with a very simple prospect enriched only by the stone portal with baroque decorations and the small bell tower overlooking it.
The single-nave interior is in Baroque style and has a polychrome altar. Unfortunately, most of the wall decorations have been lost. Behind the altar opens a space that was used for the meetings of the Brotherhood, which leads to an unexpected small court. The Church is traditionally used for the preparation of hooded penitents that characterize the local procession on Good Friday.
