Information
In the beautiful surroundings of Rocchetta there is a small monastery dedicated to Santa Maria di Giuncarico, known to the inhabitants as Monastero dell'Annunziata.
The first information about the Monastery prope Castrum Sancti Antimi, dates back to the deed of donation of the same issued by the Norman feudal lord Roberto del Torpo to the Abbey of Cava dei Tirreni dated 1081. From 1085 it was occupied by the Benedictines and with them it became a thriving center, where craftsmen and peasants found shelter, who wanted to escape the yoke of local feudatories. In the '200 on the side of the Monastery was born a real farmhouse, whose remains can be identified within the nearby forest. The festivities of the Annunciation of the B.V.M. are celebrated here on March 25, Sant'Anna, July 26 and Easter Monday.
Inside there is a statue of the Annunciation of the Neapolitan school and in the square in front of the building there is a cross with sculpture on both sides of Christ Crucified and the Virgin dating back to the sixteenth century. This sacred place is particularly dear to the inhabitants of Rocchetta: in front of the Monastery in fact you received the blessing for which you became "Compari dell'Annunziata", an act that sealed deep relations of friendship and love.
